Throughout the course, I have gained much insight into various topics. The study has been compulsive despite a few challenges. Some topics favored me more than others, and I will provide an account of some of these topics in this essay.
One of my favorite topics was module 4. I was inspired by how the Greeks made crucial contributions to mathematics, philosophy, medicine, and astronomy. Greeks were recognized for their sophisticated architecture and sculpture. Their culture impacted the Roman Empire and numerous other advancements and continues to impact contemporary cultures. Ancient Greeks created a complex philosophical and scientific culture based on the knowledge and discoveries of Egyptian civilizations. I was fascinated by realizing that one of the biggest roles of Ancient Greek philosophy is the role of inquiry and reason. One of my least favorite topics is module 7. It is unremarkable in the West, particularly in the U.S., to perceive individuals who describe the world in two terms, the West or the others, with the others being the victims of Western colonialism and imperialism. There is authenticity in the remarks, but it is a misleading perceptive to an extent. Imperialism is neither confined to the West nor a new topic. It reflects the Chinese empire’s long history of expansion and military conquest. I agree that any analysis of the postcolonial and imperialism must entail China’s legacy. Moreover, it should also necessitate global perspectives that acknowledge how people built empires. In most cases, researchers need this view, particularly in Asia. I believe it is right to admit that the issue of how to comprehend the legacy of empire in Asia is an understated inquiry in Asian history teachings. Indeed, this concerns how challenging it is for China to understand its own history as an empire.
My second least favorite topic is module 10. Lack of theoretical precision is evident in recurrent unequivocal portrayals of Islam as a world faith. The third topic that least favored me was module 11. I was displeased by the dictatorship authority of medieval feudal society. The major attribute of this society was the strict class order. Kings and queens were highly prioritized over the others. They ruled all countries, and every individual, irrespective of their race, age, and other factors, had to adhere to the command of their king. After the king’s rank, there were vassals, also recognized as lords, who ruled smaller land sections and were affluent. Furthermore, I studied that the lack of exercise and public authority by judicial functions and local administrative lords conducted by governments led to endemic conflict and general disorder.
Throughout the study, I have learned numerous topics. I have learned artistic, spiritual, and political achievements of some countries like Egypt. Moreover, I have learned how some cultures, such as the Greek cultures, inspired science, arts, mathematics, and much more. However, there were some displeasing topics. For example, I learned about some dictatorship kingdoms that mistreated society, such as the medieval feudal society. Regardless, I stayed focused on the teachings, which will greatly benefit my current and future endeavors.
