Members of Ukrainian tech industry have taken a step in fostering the growth of the Ukrainian IT by founding Diia.City United. As the co-founder and general partner of investment group Roosh, Sergey Tokarev announced the establishment of this union on Facebook and noted that it aimed to enhance the business conditions for Ukrainian tech companies.
Highlighting the significance of the IT sector, Sergey Tokarev stated, “IT contributes five percent to the country’s GDP, boasting an $8 billion turnover and over 40 percent of exports. Yet, there is immense potential for making the industry more efficient.” He believes that the Union will be a crucial instrument for addressing the current needs of the Ukrainian IT sector in collaboration with the Ukrainian government, focusing on legal transparency, predictability, a favorable business climate, and the protection and refinement of the legal regime.
Diia.City United, presented in Kyiv on February 6, aims to shape clear and transparent business rules, facilitate a constructive dialogue between the IT sector and the government, and establish Ukraine as a conducive environment for technology businesses. The founding companies, including Roosh, Monobank, Genesis, Ajax Systems, MacPaw, and Netpeak Group, underscored their commitment to these goals.
Strategic priorities unveiled during the presentation include protecting and refining the Diia.City regime, defining fair interaction rules between the government and the tech sector, addressing urgent issues in the IT industry, promoting education development, accelerating the integration of the Ukrainian technology sector into global markets, and establishing fair rules for diversity, equality, and inclusion.
Diia.City United aims to create more convenient and transparent conditions for conducting technological business in Ukraine, enabling companies to demonstrate maximum development and attract international investments. During the presentation, speakers noted that Ukrainian businesses have grown stronger through numerous crises, consolidating experts to find creative solutions to problems.
Oleksandr Kosovan, founder and CEO of MacPaw and President of Diia.City United, stressed the need for transparent and predictable rules. “Our goal is to establish a productive two-way dialogue, where the state and business consider each other’s needs,” he remarked.
According to Natalia Mykolska, Executive Director of the Union, Diia.City United’s goal is not only to convey the needs of Ukrainian businesses to the government but also to demonstrate how tech companies can actively assist Ukraine.
The participation of MPs, EU and G7 embassy representatives, investors, and influencers in the discussions underscored the importance of the collaboration between the technological business and the state. Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for Innovation, Education, Science, and Technology, expressed confidence in Diia.City United becoming a powerful example of this collaboration.
