Top Outdoor Activities in the Hamptons This Summer

As a first-timer, these Hamptons must-sees should be at the top of your list.

Montauk Lighthouse

No trip to the Hamptons is complete without visiting this historic lighthouse, commissioned by George Washington in 1792. Climb to the top of the tower for panoramic views of the Atlantic.

Coopers Beach

Stretching nearly a mile along Southhampton’s coast, this pristine white sand beach is a perfect spot to sunbathe, swim or build a sandcastle. Rent an umbrella and chairs or bring your own for a relaxing beach day.

Sag Harbor Whaling Museum

Learn about the village’s whaling history at this Smithsonian-affiliated museum. You’ll see giant whale bones, historic photos, maps and more. Kids will love the interactive exhibits.

North Fork Wineries

Vineyards and tasting rooms dot the North Fork, so spend an afternoon sampling award-winning Chardonnays, Cabernet Francs and Merlots. Many wineries offer tours and have lovely grounds for picnicking.

Westhampton Beach

Charm abounds in this old beach town, from historic landmarks like the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center to eclectic shops and art galleries along Main Street. Grab lunch on the patio at Starr Boggs or Bay Kitchen Bar.

Southampton Arts Center

Don’t miss creative works by local and international artists at this center for the visual arts. Exhibits rotate throughout the year and include paintings, photographs, sculptures and mixed media. Admission is always free.

With so much natural beauty and culture to experience, the Hamptons will delight first-time visitors. Have a wonderful trip and enjoy discovering all the area has to offer!

The Best Restaurants and Nightlife Spots in the Hamptons

The Hamptons in the summer is all about being outside and enjoying the beautiful weather. Here are some of the top outdoor activities you shouldn’t miss:

Hit the Beach

Spending the day at the beach is a must.  With over 100 miles of coastline, you have your pick of scenic beaches, from the lively Main Beach in East Hampton to the dunes of Cooper’s Beach in Southampton. Pack a picnic basket, bring a beach chair, and work on your tan while listening to the waves.

Go Paddle Boarding or Kayaking

For those wanting to get out on the water, paddle boarding and kayaking are popular options. Rent your equipment at many spots around the Hamptons and spend a few hours exploring coves, harbors and lakes. It’s a great workout and an opportunity to see wildlife in their natural habitat.

Check Out the Local Farmers Markets

The Hamptons have a thriving farm-to-table food scene. Stop by one of the local farmers markets, like the Hayground Market or Sag Harbor Farmers Market, to grab fresh produce, artisanal goods and prepared foods from East End farmers and food makers. You’ll find everything from organic fruits and veggies to homemade pies, jams, and handcrafted gifts.

Take a Bike Ride

Another eco-friendly way to get around is by bike.  Rent bikes by the hour or day and go on a leisurely ride, taking in the charming homes, beaches, vineyards and farm stands along the way. Some recommended routes are through the estate section of Southampton or the backroads of Bridgehampton and Sagaponack.

With these activities and the natural beauty surrounding you, your Hamptons summer days will be jam-packed with adventure and fun in the sun. Enjoy!
