What is Call Filtering and Blacklisting? How Do These Features Help Modern VoIP Homes?

-

Call filtering and blacklisting as important features for preventing spam calls and advertisement callers because it offers blissful peace of mind at all times. We all know how prevalent the problem is and many people regularly get ripped off their hard-earned money because of scams too.

Telemarketing and spam calls are such a major issue that America is faced with 3 billion spam calls every month. In just the first half of 2021, American residents lost $30 billion to call scammers.

So the proof is in the pudding and since most homes are using VoIP phones, having these features has become a necessity.

Let’s take a deeper look into these features, what they are, and how they work.

What Is Call Filtering and Call Blocking?

Call filtering and blacklisting are features found in modern VoIP systems. They help improve the phone call experience, particularly on mobile devices and home networks. They are primarily designed to help residents avoid unwanted and irrelevant calls, such as spam calls, telemarketing calls, or calls from specific numbers they wish to block. Here’s how each of these features works:

Call Filtering

Call filtering has a wider meaning because it allows you to take different actions on every incoming call you receive. You screen all incoming calls and apply various methods and techniques to sort, categorize, and manage them.

It allows you to rules and criteria for handling incoming calls so you can better handle your communication and avoid irrelevant and time-wasting calls. It also helps you prioritize important calls. Once you have screened the calls you can apply the following actions on each call:

  • Call Diversion: Redirect calls to a specific number or voicemail.
  • Call Blocking: Prevent calls from certain numbers from reaching your phone.
  • Whitelisting: Set a list of numbers that are approved to contact you
  • Blacklisting: Create a list to block calls from specific numbers or categories.

Blacklisting

Blacklisting is a specific call-filtering action that allows you to block calls from certain phone numbers that you can set. When a number is blacklisted, calls and messages from that number are usually blocked and typically do not ring through or trigger notifications. This is particularly useful for blocking spam calls, telemarketers, or harassing calls.

Blacklisting can be done manually, where users add unwanted numbers to a blacklist, or it can be automated through call filtering apps or built-in features on smartphones. These apps and features may also use crowdsourced or database-driven lists of known spam numbers to automatically identify and block suspicious or unwanted calls.

Both call filtering and blacklisting are valuable tools for improving phone call management and reducing the annoyance of unwanted or intrusive calls. They help users maintain control over their communication and ensure that their devices are not constantly interrupted by unwanted calls.

Unfortunately, call filtering and blacklisting are extremely important features, yet still, they aren’t built into many VoIP networks. You either have to pay extra to get these features set up in your home, or you have to manually call customer support and have it set up for you, which can be cumbersome and time-consuming.

Luckily, Axvoice has VoIP call blocking and filtering set up automatically and without any extra costs.

What Is Axvoice?

AXvoice is a VoIP service that started as a communication solution for small to medium businesses. But over the years, its popularity has exploded and now the company provides solutions to the domestic market as a replacement to landline networks.

The reason is that it is a far more reliable and cheaper alternative than traditional landline networks because it doesn’t rely on copper cables and old hardware.

Rather than connecting with traditional phone towers, AXvoice transfers data in the form of bits. This enables smooth communication even in remote regions if the internet connection is stable enough.

This is why AXvoice’s home solution is growing increasingly popular among users. Meanwhile, landline calls remain expensive due to the setup and maintenance fees, as well as the additional hidden costs involved with each connection, particularly when it is a non-domestic call.

In comparison, AXvoice’s home setup costs only $8.25 per month for a single connection, with no further fees linked with the service.

AXvoice has considerably more functionality than standard phones and is far more dependable and versatile. It also offers conference and emergency calls, in addition to more robust connections and sophisticated call control functions such as blacklisting and call filtering.

How Do Call Filtering and Blacklisting Work On Axvoice?

Blacklisting and call filtering are built into Axvoice. They are free of cost and are included with the residential or business plans. You can easily access them from your Axvoice account dashboard and blacklist or filter a number.

Axvoice Blacklisting

Here’s how Axvoice call blacklisting works:

To blacklist certain numbers, go to the “Features’ page from your AXvoice online control panel and select “Incoming Call Features”. From there, click on the “Blacklist” tab which will take you to the “Blacklist” feature page. Simply turn on this feature and start blacklisting numbers you don’t want to hear from.

Another advantage is you can use Nomorobo with Axoivce to help filter unwanted calls that come through the Axvoice service. You have to set up Nomorobo as a call screening service and when a call comes through Axvoice, it passes through Nomorobo’s screening process. If it is identified as a known robocall or spam number, Nomorobo prevents the call from reaching your phone.

Axvoice Call Filtering

Axvoice allows you to filter and redirect calls with ease. This is an essential feature, just like VoIP call blocking, especially for homes that want privacy and peace of mind. With Axvoice’s call filtering, quickly redirect your incoming calls to a different number of your choice.

To enable call filtering, sign into your AXvoice web account and click on the “Features” tab on the top of your AXvoice control panel. On the “Features” page, look for the “Call Filter” under the “Incoming Call Features” section. Once you are on the Call Filter page, click on the checkbox next to the “Enable/Disable” tab.

Once done, provide a number that you want to redirect in the “From” field and another in the “To” field (your calls will be directed to this number). Click on the “Update Status” to save the settings. You can filter multiple numbers with this feature. To filter another number, use the “Add filter button”.

VoIP Makes Modern Domestic Living a Breeze

I have already mentioned how relentlessly American residents get scammed daily and stats have shown that the losses are only getting worse with time. A good way to mitigate the risk of becoming a victim is through using reliable VoIP and the advanced features they provide. So invest in one and get the peace of mind you deserve.
